Developing an indi record label "Java Jams" and a production company "mhmProductions" and a recording studio "arachnidLand Studios" while crafting tunes and occasionally performing for a specific audience and holding a day job to support the incubation of the above endeavors is indeed a challenge to put it lightly.
It's really the music isn't it? That's what we are all doing here. Sharing our craft. Giving one another the opportunity to hear and comment and nurture the art of song craft. Many key components go into producing a recording. Even if it'd just you and your instrument, a little mic and some sort of machine to put it down on some media that can be replayed in some fashion or if it's you and some state-of-the-art recording gear with what amounts to unlimited tracks and powerful effects and editing ability, the bottom line is the same. The expression of the song itself.
Today many have within the space of their homes the ability to produce something on a scale that will rival any top notch recording studio anywhere on the planet from any time in history. The magic happens when you hear a song that just stops you dead in your tracks. Even if it's recorded on a little pocket tape recorder and the audio quality might be rough, the magic is still there. Imagine finding a mini cassette tape of John Lennon with a mind blowing song he recorded at his kitchen table with traffic noise in the background and maybe even the audio from what was on the television at the time? Yoko calling out to John once in a while . . . the song would stop you cold.
The key element stems from the heart. To express on record something of the self. As we go through the process we surrender to the rudiments that we must implement to capture that intent that originated within our creative mind and soul. At times I had only a cheesy guitar to play and at other times I had priceless instruments. Today I am very fortunate to have some amazing gear and very fine instruments. But in any case the creative heart was able to express in song that which only silence could express better.
Thank you BONXO for making it possible to share the creative hearts of so many that have the gift of music.
