 2009.01.02 :: Site Changes
( 2009-01-02 17:59:32 ) ( view number : 1014 )
We are discontinuing "free" artist account registrations and uploads. We are shifting away from being a "file sharing" service which is basically what has happened over the years. That was never the intention of Bonxo.
From now on all songs put on the site, outside of our premium members (which is a whopping 2) will be screened. Songs will be judged by a variety of criteria including but not limited to production value, composition, and uniqueness. There will be no more empty profiles and hopefully no more absolute crap uploaded to the site. We have to find a way to stick out, and I believe the artists on the site should do the talking.

I have been in the red since launching this site, and never succumbed to outside advertisers as a business model, and still refuse too. But no support from the community has led me to changing things up, so I am going to give this a shot. Run the site more like a label, if the songs have some sort of great quality then in rotation they go. I want to attract more listeners then artists, listeners are the ones that fuel the music business. Artist on artist 'review' sites are around every corner. What seems to happen is people upload tunes, share a link and comment on each others eq levels elsewhere.... not Bonxo's intention.

Within the coming months we will be deleting many accounts, most deleted accounts will be inactive ones, others will be accounts that are not accompanied by a profile, some may be accounts we feel we do not want to represent our site.

Our main goal is going to be to ramp up our physical product distribution. All album submissions will be accepted! All that's needed is to fill out our album submission form, CD-R's will not be accepted, real "complete" albums only, bar code included. We stock the albums, build the profile, song pages, and album listing, sell the album, ship the album and pay the artists direct. Maybe not a 100% unique idea, but our site format in is unique, we will not just be an e-commerce shop, above all we will remain a community but we will follow a new set of guidelines.

So here's what you will notice immediately if you have not already noticed:

1) New artist account registrations are unable to upload.
2) Old "free" artist accounts are unable to upload.
3) Premium 'paid' artists, nothing changes.
4) Brand spanking new songs, you will notice the quality of the music increase 10 fold.
5) Missing and deleted artist accounts, very gradual process

If your interested in purchasing a "premium" account you can mail me at bonxo@bonxo.com. I have not decided wether or not to get rid of premium accounts.

Thanks,

Dan Regna
