Song detail
Taken from the 3-track "Geordie" EP - Binge. I wrote this song so I wouldn't have to waste any time writing my autobiography when I'm rich and famous. Then I will have more time for all of the expensive debauchery that I deserve.
The lyrics:-
I remember times gone by when I was standing at this bar
A Friday night in the north of England. I was seventeen. It was my first jar
All my friends were gathered round me and they all dreamt that they'd go far
But none of them would leave the place they loved
I’m the one who left my home and travelled to a southern town
Where no one understood my accent but everyone could put me down
Not one person knew me there but they all knew where I came from
And they all learnt how much it meant to me
To be home again in the north of England
It's Friday night. I'm at the bar
A pint of Ex is what I'm drinking
What I'm thinking? I've come far?
The time had come to find a job and when I did it wasn’t here
I had to travel once again and leave the land I hold so dear
A part of me was full of sadness. A part of me was full of cheer
For I would go to places never seen
I worked for years in many countries. Many cultures strange to me.
In Daugavpils I drank the vodka. In Kerbala I drank the tea.
I danced to drums in Bolgatanga. I danced with girls of every creed
And everywhere I went I took the dream
To be home again in the north of England
It's Friday night. I'm at the bar
A pint of Ex is what I'm drinking
What I'm thinking? I've come far?
Now I live across the water. I found a wife and settled here.
I almost feel at peace again, but sometimes I can feel a tear.
My old home seems so far away but in my mind it’s very near
And everything about it is so clear
It’s not the town that I remember. It’s not the bridge across the Tyne.
What I think of is the crack. A night out with old friends of mine
Well you could say I’ve seen the world and you could say that I’ve come far
But sometimes I would swap it all to be
Home again in the north of England
It’s Friday night. I’m at the bar
A pint of Ex is what I’m drinking
What I’m thinking? I’ve come far
